New Head Volleyball coach Nicole Thorn added Carthage native Macy Cherry to her coaching staff this past week.
"We're extremely excited to have Macy join our program and our family. She has a tremendous work ethic and great personality that I think will mesh well with our team. We're blessed to have her on board," stated Coach Thorn.
Macy spent the last two season as Head Volleyball Coach at Elysian Field High School. Both years, her team finished as bi-district finalist. Prior to Elysian Fields, she student coached/managed with Blinn Volleyball and Texas State Volleyball.
While Cherry was at Blinn, the bucs finished the season 39-3 and defeated TJC 3-1 to claim the NJCAA National Championship in 2013. She also spent a year as an assistant with San Marcos High School’s volleyball team in 2016.
"I'm very excited to start my journey at Panola and thankful for the opportunity to progress in my career! Former coaches, Amber McCray and Jane Hays have built a successful program here. Coach Thorn and I are looking to continue that and strive for a National Championship. Knowing the reputation of the Volleyball Program and my family living in Carthage, the opportunity was a no-brainer. I'm very grateful," says Coach Cherry.
Coach Cherry feels that she will definitely be able to add much to the program.
"Being a former Personal Trainer and Exercise Sports Science major, I feel that I can add much to the team, plus nutrition and fitness is my passion. Also, being a former player, student coach, and head coach, I have been able to see the game from many different perspectives. Nicole and I will combine our experience and knowledge to continue and grow a successful program. I believe my drive, competitiveness, heart, and versatility will allow me to thrive at Panola," noted Coach Cherry.
